Tips:
- Stay organized- This way you won't lose anything important or forget to do homework. Write down your homework in a copybook every period and keep loose papers and packets in a binder or separate folders. You don't need to carry everything at once; use your locker and swap out morning class materials for afternoon materials.
- Don't be afraid to ask for help- If you don't understand something or you are having problems completing your work, go in and ask a teacher for help.
- Check over your work- For anything graded, checking over your work is a good idea. Before handing in tests, look over each answer and make sure they make sense. Use a textbook or notes to check over assignments. Often, you will end up finding mistakes you hadn't noticed, therefore raising your grade.
- Take Notes- For any class where notes are not provided, make sure to take careful notes. They will help you later on for homework and studying for tests and quizzes.
- Study- In order to succeed in school, it is essential to be prepared for tests and quizzes. That can be done by studying. Read over your notes, write out what you need to know, quiz yourself, create quizlits. Even if your sure you know everything, read over your notes once because you may not have picked up on some important information.
- Don't wait to the last minute- Rushed work tends to be sloppy and incorrect. If you have a lot to do, split it up into chunks and do one part at a time. Instead of cramming for a test, study little bits every night. Not only will you have more time, you will be less stressed because you will not have to worry about getting everything done on time.
- Take Breaks- While studying or doing homework, it is important to take breaks so that you can stay focused.
- Check Your Grades- Use powerschool to check and keep track of your grades. It can be used as motivation to do better and to make sure that you are not falling behind. Checking grades allows you to see if any mistakes were put into the gradebook, also.
- Set Goals- Set goals to push yourself to do better. Goals inspire you to work and study harder to achieve better grades.
